At least in football the miserable 3rd place play-off comes and goes soon after the SF loss. Rugby lads have to spend about a week preparing for theirs.

World Rugby has announced a new competition starting in 2026 as part of a "significant overhaul" of the men's international calendar.

The tournament will be made up of 24 teams, split into two divisions with 12 teams in each, with promotion and relegation starting from 2030.

The top division will include the 10 sides from the Six Nations and Rugby Championship, plus two unnamed others.

The World Cup will also be expanded to 24 teams from 2027.

Sounds decent, the more nations playing regular competitive matches the better they’ll get. It’s a slow process, the World Cup this year shows most countries are miles behind but you have to try and bridge that gap somehow

England vs Argentina - England have already beaten Argentina in the Group stage so will be favourites for 3rd place (Match is meaningless in reality)
