Does that mean Humphries will win the event, I wonder?

Hey, I don't know about it in the professional game, but my good fellow Pete once survived 8 match darts in The College Inn in the U-District in a quarter final game, and then went on to win the title. Great player Pete, won over 20 US steel tip tournaments nationwide.

Any previous world finals between two players who had both survived match darts on the way to it?

2024 World Championship. That'll be Luke Humphries. Cullen had two darts at d18 to beat him I think?

Virtually all the legends in darts history seem to have won a World Championship after surviving match darts against them.

It's hard to go 5 or 6 matches without suffering some kind of scare along the way, especially if it's your first time winning the thing and you haven't had the chance to establish dominance

Ones that immediately come to mind:

Bristow in 1985
Wilson in 1989
Priestley in 1991
Taylor in 1992
Barneveld in 1999 and 2007
Cross in 2018
Humphries 2024

Painter, when it was 6-6 in sets and Painter 4-3 up in the legs in the 2004 World Championship final had 162 with Taylor on 74, and Painter hit treble 20, single 20 and bullseye to leave 32. So Painter was 1 dart away from being world champion, but he never got the shot at it, as Taylor took out 74 in two darts with treble 14, double 16.

Wright in 2020
Noel Malicdem had a dart at the bull (and should have had more before that)
