Re: The Great TDF Darts Picture Parade
Don't go Jurgy. Still very surreal to see darts up there on the BBC site.

It's the PDC pairs championships from 97 I presume. When Barney was a mushtashio.

Re: The Great TDF Darts Picture Parade
I had never read about how this came about but it is written in details on his Dutch wiki page. Translated it into English below.
In October 1997 Van Barneveld, together with Roland Scholten, "accidentally" entered as a BDO player in the PDC pairs world championship called Golden Wonder World Pairs Championship , held in Bognor Regis (they had actually registered for a nearby BDO tournament, but walked into the wrong event). They qualified through the qualifying tournament held in Blackpool . The tournament consisted of three rounds, the first two of which were pool stages. In the first group, Van Barneveld and Scholten first won 6-5 against Peter Evison and Peter Manley . However, the second match was lost 6-3 to John Lowe and Cliff Lazarenko . In the third they beat Dean Alsop and Mark Robinson 6-3. In the second group, Van Barneveld and Scholten won three times with large scores against Phil Taylor and Bob Anderson (6-2), Keith Deller and Jamie Harvey (6-0), and Richie Gardner and Paul Lim (6-2), respectively. In the final, Van Barneveld and Scholten competed against Rod Harrington and Richie Burnett. After interim leads of 5-0, 8-2 and 10-5, the score was 17-15 in favor of Van Barneveld and Scholten. Van Barneveld then won the world title for couples with a symbolic double two (18-15), and the duo succeeded Phil Taylor and Bob Anderson as tournament winners. [21] Van Barneveld and Scholten are also the last winners of the tournament, because it was replaced by the World Grand Prix in 1998 .
