Those calf kicks worked a treat for Poirier.
Michael Chandler had one hell of a UFC debut too.

Yeah, he really did a number on the Kiwi bloke.
McGregor was in control after that first round as well.

Re: UFC/MMA
Hooker looked quite apprehensive in the fight, felt a bit bad for him as he's a likeable guy and his total quarantine time is about 6 weeks due to New Zealand's protocols. All of that just to be knocked out in 2 and a half minutes gotta sting.

Re: UFC/MMA
Far from it really This was his first fight in the UFC. Chandler was Lightweight champ in Bellator a few times so he's got some pedigree. Many argued that he's past his prime and has been involved in a few wars (tbh just look at the state of his ears) and he probably made the move to the big league a bit too late in his career, but he's done extremely well last night. Can't think of a better way to make an impact and create hype than a flashy KO in the co-main event of a McGregor card.Jimmi wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 4:26 pmWasn't it the other guys first professional fight a well?

Called out McGregor and a few of the other bigger boys too. Brash call.
And this was actually the first time I've sat down and properly watched UFC. So my knowledge is very limited.
Actually enjoyed it a lot.

Re: UFC/MMA
Wasn't an impressive card on paper really other than the main 2 fights but most fights were a pretty decent watch, disagree with people saying Mcgregor wasn't motivated, think he 100% was but at the elite level of ufc there's no shame in losing to anyone and Poirier is one of the best around, maybe if he's more active he doesn't lose that fight so hopefully get to see him dig his heels in and come back in March/April for a fight to get active again

Re: UFC/MMA
Don't think he comes back that soon, March is already incredibly stacked, the 6th and 27th cards look incredible with all the title fights.TheMalteseDart wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 8:21 pm Wasn't an impressive card on paper really other than the main 2 fights but most fights were a pretty decent watch, disagree with people saying Mcgregor wasn't motivated, think he 100% was but at the elite level of ufc there's no shame in losing to anyone and Poirier is one of the best around, maybe if he's more active he doesn't lose that fight so hopefully get to see him dig his heels in and come back in March/April for a fight to get active again

I think McGregor will fight either Ferguson or Diaz next.
Poirier should rematch Gaethje for the vacant belt.

Re: UFC/MMA
Couple of interesting fights last night,
Sandhagen with a huge knockout win with a flying knee v Frankie Edgar, think nobody's surprised at that result but that win puts Sandhagen in the limelight and lifts him high up in the featherweight pecking order
Think Volkov looked fantastic v Overeem, made it look easy and busted him up without throwing anything particularly huge, future heavyweight champion possibly
Next week it's Usman v Burns for the Welterweight championship but the rest of the card looks meh

Re: UFC/MMA
Those last 2 fights felt like a punch in the gut watching both Edgar and Overeem get torn apart like that.
I do like both Sandhagen and Volkov tho, especially Volkov is looking much improved in his last 2, but I still feel he loses against the top HWs.
