Well, it means something if a women wins, but if the man wins it indeed doesnt mean anythingRandall wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:45 pmThe same problem as having men in the womens gamewillem0000 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 7:34 pmThe problem of having women in the mens is that the womens side winner doesnt mean anything anymore.1205 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 6:24 pmIn Western countries I can't think anybody would be upset at having Open tournaments. A number of sports have done that to help deal with inclusivity.Randall wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 6:10 pmIt may yet force them into one generic open category for all1205 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 5:34 pm
They should always have had an Open category anyway, instead of specifically calling it Men's.
Then call everything else "Not Bad For A ...". Not Bad For A Woman, Not Bad For A Boy, Not Bad For A Girl, etc.
It'd be unlikely, at least for now, that the top women would play in the Open events since they have better expected income playing the Women's, but they should be given the option.
It would have a couple of other benefits:
1) Trans women could comfortably play in the Open category.
2) Sherrock could play in the Open category because she prefers to play against men. Or shut up about how she prefers to play against men while getting into PDC tournaments via Women-only routes.
Rules have even forced unnecessary separation of youth and adult players. Back in 2019 Greaves* didn't didn't go to the Masters because she would only have been allowed in the Girls'. She wasn't allowed to play in the Women's event despite, by form, being the best female player in the world and having won a bunch of qualifying events. (That was after earlier not being able to go to the World Trophy qualifiers because she was under 16.)
* Bennett also didn't go.
But even forgetting trans, open events allow the better women to test themselves against a higher standard of opposition, even if they're not playing Open tournaments all the time.
If there's any real ambition to get more women playing serious darts and to raise the standard, the system should encourage it.

Oh! Sorry, I didn't spot the darts. Yes I guess the green is to give a slight suggestion of MvG.
