Some good showmanship here. Not just because it's in a smaller venue but the walk out lasses, the flags. Closest thing I've seen in ages was the African stuff over the weekend. They were loving it going mental.

Twat Porter and some of the new intake seem perfectly content to have a nickname a walk on song and then just play darts. No razzmatazz or bombast. Some of the players would prefer BDO-esque silence. The game will grow for a bit but ultimately go to pot if that carries on. Same old shit olly and those terrible final boards of the BDO wanted.

Darts had more charm in the 90s and 00s imo. Today's PDC is too overly-produced. For example, compare Sky's naff intro today to the great intro they had in the 90s and 00s. The smaller Tavern and lax narrow entrance way could never be reproduced today, but they did not half make for a great atmosphere, far preferable to the one at Ally Pally.

Regarding the BIB, I actually think interest in the UK was already declining before Littler emerged.

To many darts (with the same faces) to keep it interesting, you just need Lakeside, Dutch Open, World Masters, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy. Thats it: 5 tournaments.

PT13 made an excellent point about the Tavern a few years ago.

From the 1990s darts world, I miss the old atmosphere most. That rowdy, working class atmosphere in low roof buildings like the Circus Tavern, but weren't the mass booing on finishes like today. The feeling when coming up to a Circus Tavern World Championship was special. It was a very different feeling to today. Today it's more sanitized somehow, less personal, less cosy, but it does have better depth in quality.

I will add that as rowdy as the Tavern crowds were during entrances and between sets, they at least all watched the games and the songs they sung during games were actually relevant to the players competing.
