Despite Bazball, the fastest ever test century by an English player was by one GL Jessop when he scored his hundred off just 76 balls at the Oval against Captain Hobo’s lot.
I can only imagine the disgust of the crowd watching at such an aberration.

That was 1902...Randy was probably there, but would have walked out in disgust

From Jonathan Agnew....

I absolutely don’t understand that shot. Situation? Bumrah? It seems such an unnecessary risk for such a gifted and experienced player to take.

You have to accept they are just going to keep attacking but there needs to be some intelligence to it.
Game and series in the balance, India a bowler short, there best one at that.
Could have knuckled down a little bit

From Michael Vaughan....

Sorry, but all this is the way the whole team plays is nonsense. Why do all players have to play Bazball. The captain doesn’t so why does Joe?

Root seems the 1 player adversely affected to me?
Sure he averaged higher before its advent. He has had some lunatic dismissal.

This made me chuckle

" Brendon McCullum is scribbling down something on a sheet of paper. Normally I'd say it would be some tactical notes but with this England it may just be a tip for the 2:50 at Kempton."

England don't have any tactics so it surely won't be that

From the BBC website...

Joe Root's batting average is better under Stokes and McCullum than during the rest of his career, by the way. Question the shot, yes, but some perspective.

Stephan Shemilt

BBC Sport chief cricket writer in Rajkot

I keep coming back to the idea that watching this England team is like being the parent of a toddler. Brilliantly entertaining and deeply frustrating, often both at the same time. Do not take your eyes off them in case they do something spectacular or life-threatening

What is so frustrating was the fact England were in control of the match at the start of the day. The Root dismissal was a shocker, but if he pulls that shot off it looks great. Bazball has been proven to work more than not and you still wouldn’t rule England out of this match.

It's the wrong shot to play however you look at it
Can be attacking with being suicidal
