I like him and rate him but he simply lacks that turbo boost/gearshift to not get picked off by someone along the way.
I don't see that happening with so many events around. If you are consistently getting to the later stages, which he does, sooner later he'll pick up a couple wins. He is the modern Wade and as soon as the few big hitters are out or have a bad game, he'll be there to strike.
In a short sprint euro event at a push.
Over the longer format he is vulnerable to half the field, arguably more.
Done well on TV, but surprisingly poor on the Euro Tour, just two quarters (one of which he beat two associates and had a bye) and a semi to show from last year. Plenty of comparable players have won Euro Tour events over the last few years though, especially as the top players often skip them
I suspect this year just gone will be as good as it gets for him.

Hard to make a clean take now that the calendar is shot to fuck but he is, provisionally, heading out of 2021 Ally Pally ranked #7.

Also provisionally Wright leads MvG after 2021 worlds by a whopping 500 pounds.

Which smartarse voted outside the top 32? That's less likely than top 5 IMO. Durrant is a class dart player who holds the record for the highest ever tournament average at the Lakeside by a British thrower. Gurney is top 5 and is he really a significantly better dart player than Durrant? I'm not convinced.

Only reason I didn't vote top 5 is because Durrant can be a bit of a bottle job and in the PDC he won't get away with missing opportunities the same way he does in the BDO. Guys like Suljovic and Wade aren't really any more talented, but they could eat him for breakfast if his lack of mental toughness gets the better of him.
I think Duzza has shown his mental toughness and is no bottle job.

Going to keep coming up short.
Probably yeah, give him credit for never going away and always putting the pressure on Dimi, but whereas someone like Anderson might have a poor couple of legs followed by some absolute silly bollocks darts, Duzza didn't have that. Still, he'll be there or thereabouts, there are enough TV events that I'm sure he'll get another chance like this (maybe not the proper majors with the long format)

He doesn't have that "power surge" Ala Taylor that just blows opponents away mid game that the absolute elite are capable .
When you survive on your ability to hit clutch doubles that's going to wear you down.
He has also been helped by people playing inter shit against him. Not that it's his fault clearly

Four TV ranking semi-final defeats. They are all achievements in themselves, absolutely. But as Randall says, this becomes a lot to defend. It could feel like a burden without a title to show for it.

Some of these weren't especially close. I've no doubt he'll make a big final eventually, largely because there are so many tournaments. Last night was easily the closest he's come.

2019 Matchplay SF
(100.77) Michael Smith 17-10 Glen Durrant (94.16)

2019 Grand Prix SF
(91.17) Dave Chisnall 4-1 Glen Durrant (87.20)

2019 Grand Slam SF
(97.34) Peter Wright 16-11 Glen Durrant (94.28)

2020 Matchplay SF
(98.97) Dimitri Van den Bergh 17-15 Glen Durrant (98.44)

On the topic of defending big money, there's this too:

2020 Worlds QF
(99.69) Gerwyn Price 5-1 Glen Durrant (94.42)

The Grand Slam money doesn't go on his OoM total as he was a 'BDO' player then in fairness

In fairness to him, he's an absolutely relentless grinder, you generally have to play very well to beat him, or come through one hell of a gut-check to beat him

Duzza is very underrated by some on here.
