Yes. Porter said exactly this in that recent interview.

I think he should be able to play the qualifiers and play for a PDC place instead, without surrendering his BDO place. Not sure if he'll be allowed to do that though. Easiest would be just to beat Chizzy tonight and get a PDC spot through that.
The truth, however ugly in itself, is always curious and beautiful to seekers after it.

About £50k to make up with at least two events to go. Possible, but could definitely do with getting to the Grand Slam and going on a bit of a run
As a marker, Cross was 20th at his first Ally Pally. If anyone is ever going to beat that, it's Durrant right now. Cross left that Ally Pally ranked #2, mind...

Anyone winning PDC Worlds on debut from here would be the third player (unless you count Priestley) to do so, after Barney and Cross. Only 8 players have won it at all so that's quite something. Debutants making the world final is a topic... I don't have the stamina currently but Shepherd comes to mind. Run for your life, it's Kirk.
I think that's it for the PDC.

After Rodders in 1995, Manley, Whitlock and Gando have all made the Final in their Second Year. In Whitlock's case it was his first PDC Worlds for 7 years.
Also Dudbridge made the final in his second year, having lost in the quarter-finals to eventual finalist Painter in his debut edition.

Fun fact: Dudbridge, a world masters champ, never played a Lakeside.

Cheers, hadn't listened to or read the transcript of the interview yet.

Playing in it is a bigger deal than his OOM I guess so if he gets wind he will be getting a BDO spot he would probably be better served to run with the "delighted to represent the BDO as their World Champion" card even though as you say ideally he'd rather have been in it as a PDC player.

Well then, after one complete season... 22nd.

Probably about what Bunting did. Even down to losing in the quarters on Worlds debut.

Ah go on then. 5 years ago, the corresponding match:

Fine year for him, not groundbreaking or anything, didn't win a TV event, or even a Euro Tour, but three TV semis and quarters at the Worlds is good in almost anyone's book. Not always been at 100%, but shown grit to beat players when playing poorly, even if his major exits have been disappointing

Strikes me as a Richard North type who'll know exactly what he's defending at each event

I've said he'll never win a PDC major but have decided that's not really that outlandish a claim so I am going to extend it to he will never win a PDC stage event.

I like him and rate him but he simply lacks that turbo boost/gearshift to not get picked off by someone along the way.

If his Grand Slam money would've counted he would be up to 15 on the OoM. I think next year he'll probably be somewhere in the top 8 if he keeps up the form he's shown this year. The biggest challenge as Randall said is him defending the money 2 years from now.

He's done much better than I expected and fair play, a far from shabby first year.

As has been said he hasn't defended yet and apart from Pro and Euro Tours won't till 2021, then the fun will start.

His age is also a factor

Possibly a slight level above Jenks, reckon we're in a stronger era now than when the Raging Bull got cunted in all those finals

Over the real long course there is clearly a ceiling on his ability or more accurately his consistency.
Going to keep coming up short.

If he wins just as much money on the order of merit in his second year as his first, Durrant would finish in 8th place after 2 years based on the current order of merit. Not bad!

It seems pretty weird that since he joined the PDC, Durrant seems to have become a very different type of player. In the BDO he was comfortably the highest scorer but he did miss quite a few key darts and his mental strength was sometimes called into question. In the PDC, while his scoring hasn't significantly declined there are some other players who can outscore him, but one of his key strengths has been his bottle and ability to check out under pressure. Obviously he has grown some bollocks in the last 12 months!

I don't see that happening with so many events around. If you are consistently getting to the later stages, which he does, sooner later he'll pick up a couple wins. He is the modern Wade and as soon as the few big hitters are out or have a bad game, he'll be there to strike.

In a short sprint euro event at a push.
Over the longer format he is vulnerable to half the field, arguably more.

Done well on TV, but surprisingly poor on the Euro Tour, just two quarters (one of which he beat two associates and had a bye) and a semi to show from last year. Plenty of comparable players have won Euro Tour events over the last few years though, especially as the top players often skip them
